General doctrine of the sacraments: - "Sacramentality/sacramentality" as a generally religious and specifically Christian concept/phenomenon. - Jesus Christ - the primary sacrament; the Church - the basic sacrament. - The concept, theology and celebration of sacraments in the history of Christianity (their development and denominational diversification). - The liturgical-dogmatic dimension of the sacraments (the relationship between sacraments and liturgy; the central role of Scripture - the Divine Word). - Common basic characteristics of the seven sacraments. The doctrine of the individual sacraments of the Catholic Church: - The specificity of the sacraments of initiation and their interpretation in the light of the theory of the so-called "higher sacraments" (sacramenta maiora). - The sacrament of baptism. - Sacrament of Confirmation. - The sacrament of the Eucharist. - The Sacrament of Penance. - The sacrament of anointing of the sick. - Sacrament of Confirmation. - The sacrament of marriage.

Learning outcomes

Understanding the theme of "sacramentality" and the reality of the "sacraments" in their complexity, which is due to their universality (since they contain the characteristics of universal religious phenomena), historical development, the factor of plurality (both of concepts and theology and of the way of celebrating the sacraments), interdisciplinarity and ecumenical dimension. Familiarity with the basic content of the concepts and themes of the doctrine of the sacraments of the Catholic Church and Catholic theology. The subject matter will be treated from a biblical, historical and dogmatic point of view, taking into account - in the spirit of ecumenism - the doctrine of the sacraments in non-Catholic churches and ecclesial communities.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to - summarize and explain the basics of doctrine on the sacraments; - organically integrate the perspective of Scripture, Tradition, and Church teaching in looking at the various topics of the course; - find the connections of each topic to the Trinitarian and Christological core of the Christian faith; - identify the main lines of Catholic doctrine on the sacraments with regard to their ecumenical dimension; - summarize, critically assess and evaluate selected issues in sacramental theology in the light of the Church's teaching after the Second Vatican Council; - grasp anew the relevance of dogmatic-theological reflection on the sacraments for one's own theological and existential synthesis.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam
The student is required to: 1) follow and comply with the instructions provided in the LMS; 2) study the course materials and required readings; 3) attend at least four of the five mandatory webinars. The following rules apply: - any absence from a mandatory webinar must be duly justified in a timely manner; - one absence is permitted; in the event of a second or third absence, the student is required to contact the instructors, who will assign an individual make-up task; - absence from four or more webinars precludes successful completion of the course; - attendance means active online participation for the entire duration of the webinar. The student must have a functioning microphone and keep the camera switched on throughout; - engaging in other activities during the webinar is not permitted; - the use of AI in preparation for the mandatory webinars is prohibited. The student is required to work independently with the assigned texts. The same requirement applies to any individual make-up assignment completed in the event of an absence. 4) The student is also required to pass a final oral examination demonstrating knowledge of the material covered both in the lectures and in the required readings. A student taking the oral examination online is responsible for ensuring a reliable audio and video connection. The examination is conducted using two cameras: a front-facing camera (computer or laptop) and a side camera (mobile phone), positioned so as to show the primary device as well as the student's face and hands. In order to ensure the integrity of the examination, the examiner is entitled to require a clear view of the student, particularly of the student's hands and face. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the student being excluded from the examination. The use of headphones or earphones is not permitted.
