The discipline is intended to present the broadly interdisciplinary position of modern stylistics within the linguistic disciplines. It emphasizes the importance of the stylistic system, stylistic and functional differentiation of the national language as a sensitive indicator of changes in in the extralinguistic and purely linguistic situation of a given cultural community. The sub-areas of stylistic interest include in particular the following: the current state and stylistic tendencies of modern Czech and Russian (i.e. universal and specific phenomena in Russian and Czech), the functional conception of stylistics, the situation of the national language - stratification, etc. The discipline is conceived as a lecture by the guarantor followed by a broader discussion of the seminar participants on pre-specified questions and presentation of individually prepared outputs on partial pre-specified topics with discussion.
