Course content

1. Introduction into the topic (housing, social issues) - mind mapping, language stereotypes, collocations. 2. Language and speech stereotypes - exercises, comparison of texts. 3. Working with audiotexts - selection of information. 4. Working with audiotexts, texts - language and speech compression, sight interpreting, eloquence. 5. Sight translation, consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting. 6. Interpreting a mock-conference or mock-negotiations.

Learning outcomes
|
The practical seminar is designed to train various skills and strategies of treating Russian or Czech texts in the course of interpreting. Selection of primary vs. secondary information, language or speech compression, reduction of expression, generalization, contextual synonyms and other phenomena are studied. The language material is presented by the teacher as well as the students, discussions follow the presentations.
The ability to make a language as well as topic-oriented preparation prior to the intrepreting task, the skill of active treatment of a text in the course of interpreting.

Completion of at least 2 seminars in Russian-Czech, Czech-Russian interpreting.
