Course content
|
1-2. The specific features of interpreting, interpreting compared to translation. 3. Theoretical background for interpreting (classification, tradition, methods). 4-5. Interpreter´s methods, treatment of the text. 6. Treatment of the text in interpreting (form vs. content, compression, the gist information, restylization). 7. Stylization and restylization of speech in the target language (synonyms, generalization, etc.). 8. The role of memory and associations in reception and reproduction of a message. 9-10. Interpreter´s notation (its principles, types and examples). 11-12. Linguistic and factual preparation for text to be interpreted (lexico-semantic fields, automatized expressions).

Learning outcomes
|
This theoretical course focuses on the comparison of interpreting and translation. We shall deal with the main characteristics of interpreting, the specifics of the interpreter´s treatment of a text and their preparation for the performance. We shall also dedicate a part of the course to practical demonstration of the methods and processes applied in interpreting.
Students will be able to distinguish separate types of interpreting and to comment on the specific features of interpreting and the special preparation for it, they will also be capable of applying some methods when dealing with a Czech or Russian text.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of Russian of at least B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, ability to follow a specialized lecture held in Russian language.
