Course content
01. - 02. Introduction to stylistics. Relations between stylistics and other linguistic disciplines. Basic concepts of stylistics: an overview. 03. - 04. Stylistic resources of the Russian language. Lexical stylistics. Typical stylistic errors. 05. - 06. Functional stylistics. Administrative style. 07. - 08. Functional stylistics. Scientific style. 09. - 10. Functional stylistics. Journalistic style. 11. - 12. Functional stylistics. Conversational style. 13. Final exercises (texts).

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on the complex perception of language means in the context of specific stylistic conditions. The aim of the course is to apply linguistic knowledge in stylistic approach to language. The functional styles to be analyzed are the scientific style, administrative style, journalistic style and conversational style. Attention is paid not only to functional but also to practical stylistics of the Russian language, including stylistic errors. We shall compare and analyse selected texts.
Students will be able to analyze Russian texts of various genres and styles using the proper terminology and stylistic commentary as well as apply the stylistic devices in stylistic transformation of Russian texts.
Prerequisites
Good knowledge of primary linguistic disciplines (morphology, syntax, phonetics and phonology) and advanced knowledge of Russian language (B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Oral exam, Written exam, Student performance

Attendance, max. 2 absences. Written home assignments. Passing the written test.
