Course content
1. Short history of Christian religion, especially the Orthodox religion. 2. The Architecture of the religious buildings. 3. The Orthodox calendar, feasts and ceremonies. 4. The Orthodox liturgy. 5. The differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy. 6. ? 7.The Orthodox church in Czech Republic and Slovakia, its history and present state. Administrative structure of the Orthodox church. 8. - 9.Christian terms in Russian and Czech: differences and parallels in Catholic and Orthodox terminology. 10.-11. The topics are up-dated by referring to the current events in Orthodoxy, especially in CIS countries, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.

Learning outcomes
This facultative course is focused on the following topics: short history of Christian religion, especially the Orthodox religion, the Architecture of the religious buildings, the Orthodox calendar, feasts and ceremonies, the Orthodox liturgy, the differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy, the Orthodox church in Czech Republic and Slovakia, its history and present state, administrative structure of the Orthodox church, Christian terms in Russian and Czech: differences and parallels in Catholic and Orthodox terminology. The topics are up-dated by referring to the current events in Orthodoxy, especially in CIS countries, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
Students will broaden their knowledge in one of the important fields of Russian and Czech realia.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Russian, at least B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Oral exam, Dialog
