Course content
The content of individual seminars will be the analysis and assessment of student?s translation of literary text of various genres written predominantly by contemporary Russian authors.

Learning outcomes
The aim and the philosophical and methodological principles applied in this course are identical with the aims and methods of the previous two courses Translation of Literary Text 1 and 2. The students who have completed these seminars will have acquired a basic techniques of literary translation from Russian to Czech. We are now focusing especially on texts written by contemporary authors which have not yet been translated into Czech. Mostly it will be short prosaic texts, drama or, for keen students, poetry. Students also have the opportunity to publish their best translations as well as to participate in national competitions for translators.
Students will broaden their knowledge of the specific features of literary translation and practice the creative approach both in assessing and creating the translations.
Prerequisites
An advanced knowledge of Russian and Czech, C1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, knowledge of collocations in both languages and translation techniques and strategies.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)

? Translating the assigned texts of different genres (it is important to prepare the translations before the class) ? Active participation ? Submitting and defending a translation of a prosaic or poetic text, 5 standard pages
