Course content
|
The course will present the students with theoretical basis about the computer aided translation in general (basic terminology, problems in the principle of computer translation, confronting the ?machine translation? and ?human translation?, fields and ways of applying CAT and MT) and will enable the students to get familiar with various software applications used for computer-aided translation ? CAT (Wordfast, Kilgray's MemoQ, Atril's Dej-vu, SDL Trados TWB), so that they will be able to create and administer the translation memory, electronic glossary and work with the document to be translated (import, export, cleaning) etc.

Learning outcomes
|
This course is divided in two courses, one for each semester. The aim of this course is to present the students with current computer programmes and techniques used for the translation process. The first course covers the following topics: see bellow.
Knowledge of technologies used for computer-aided translation and an ability to use them actively.

Prerequisites
|
Students should be able to work with computer (MS Windows, function of the mouse, work with windows, understanding the options of the computer system) on the basic level.
|

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
- Active participation, max. 2 absences. - Preparing the assigned tasks at home, studying the assigned materials. - Submitting the assigned tasks. - Passing the credit test, i.e. to get 80 % out of 100 % (theoretical part - 30 %, practical part - 70 %).
