Learning outcomes
The course is devoted to the study of Russian children's literature from a historical, aesthetic and pedagogical perspective from its emergence in the 18th-19th centuries to contemporary post-Soviet texts. The focus is on the main stages in the development of children's literature, changes in artistic models of childhood, genre forms and educational strategies, as well as the connection between literary works and the socio-historical and cultural context of the era. The course includes six lectures and six seminars. The seminars analyse compulsory works and texts chosen by the students. Literary works are examined in three interrelated aspects: as artistic texts (genre, style, plot, narrative strategies), as pedagogical statements (educational goals, models of socialisation, ideas about childhood), and as phenomena of the historical and cultural process. The course develops skills in literary analysis, critical understanding of children's literature as a distinct artistic form, and an understanding of its role in shaping cultural and pedagogical ideas about childhood.
Ability to analyse arbitrary poetic texts, relate the content of the analysed text to broader cultural and historical context, extended vocabulary including terminology.
