Course content
1-2. Music and its movements and genres, festivals, composers. 3-4. Contemporary music 5-6. Fine arts: artistic trends, schools, personalities of Russian and world fine arts. 7-8. Russian and world theater. 9-10. Film as a specific kind of art. 11-12. 21st century science and art: trends, new forms and challenges.

Learning outcomes
Both the active and passive vocabulary and language skills have already reached the level when it is possible to deal with more difficult, advanced and more abstract topics; the language performance, both written and oral, should be on a very high level. Students shall understand the information from documentaries and other specialized programmes concerning literature or social topics, they shall be able to answer questions about the content of a text, reproduce the information from magazine articles both orally or in a written form, they shall master the preparation for oral presentation and essay writing. The topics we shall deal with are concerned with Russian and world culture: Russian and world theatre, film, theatre or film festivals, music, visual art, schools and figures of Russian and world art.
Students will improve their language skills and gain new information about the life of present-day Russian society.
Prerequisites
We expect a practical knowledge of Russian, at least B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, a knowledge of the Russian system of grammar on an advanced level as well as knowledge of Russian culture and realia.
