The Russian phonetic system. The Russian accent. Reduction of the vowels o, a. Reduction of the vowels e, i. The vowels o, u after soft consonants. The vowel y. Specific Russian consonants. Pronunciation of groups of consonants. Assimilation. The Russian intonation.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject gives the students an overview of the elementary practical ways of pronunciation of the Russian speech sounds. The students will focus particularly on reduction of the speech sounds in Russian folk songs, romances and the songs of Russian bards (Vysotsky, Okudzhava and others).
The students will learn the ways of transformation of the Russian speech sounds occurring in songs and in common language.

The course is designed for all candidates with elementary knowledge of Russian.
