Learning outcomes
Due to the abundance of existing materials for the study of this topic, the discipline does not aim to describe the history of Russia in the 20th century in chronological sequence. The emphasis is on the issues that are most relevant to today (national issues and the roots of today's conflicts, the human rights movement in the Soviet era and in Russia today, etc.). Particular attention is focused on the context of political developments and the situation in culture (art against the pressure of power versus art in its service). The ways in which the different stages of 20th century Russian history are interpreted in the present and how the Putin regime uses them in its propaganda are also reflected.
Students will get familiar with the prominent problems in the history of the 20th century Russia in the context of history of art, culture and literature.

A good knowledge of the old Russian history (this course is a follow-up course to the History of the East Slavic countries).
