Course content
01. Gr: U5: Numerals and expressions quantifying time. 02. Gr: U5: Modal verbs. Past perfect tense. 03. Co: U4: Shopping and clothes. 04. Gr: L6: Quantifiers (many, much, etc.). Verbs of transformation. 05. Gr: L6: Sequence of tenses. Past conditional. 06. Co: U5: Town vs. countryside. Modern lifestyle. Crime. Waste. 07. Gr: L7: Articles - part 1. Relative pronouns and relative clauses. Passive voice. 08. Gr: L7: Modal verb with infinitive. 09. Co: U6: Health and human body. 10. Gr: L8: Articles - part 2. Infinitive contructions. 11. Gr: L8: Conditional clauses. Clauses of purpose.

Learning outcomes
In the lessons dedicated to grammar we shall further broaden and systematize the knowledge of English grammar and exercise the knowledge in order to automatize the grammar rules. The grammatical phenomena shall be compared with Czech language. The aim of the grammatical part is to prepare the student for multifaceted work with English specialized texts (especially texts on economy) for further studies. In the conversational lessons, we shall continue with text analysis and broadening the vocabulary in selected topics. Special attention is paid to development of communicative competence in specific situations. We shall also deal with listening as a complementary part. Writing is exercised by means of home assignments (essays on a given topic.)
Broadening the systematic knowledge of English grammar in comparison with Czech language. Improving the communicative competence and broadening the vocabulary connected to selected conversational topics.
Prerequisites
Upper intermediate level of English as expected from high school lessons, i.e., B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages. Completing the course English 1 and having adequate knowledge from the previous course.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

- Attendance, 2 absences max. - Completing the assignments. - Active participation, individual preparation of home assignments. - Passing the credit test (80%), 3 attempts.
