Course content
1. Consecutive interpreting: introduction 2. Consecutive interpreting: note taking: 7 principles according to F Rozan 3. Verticalism and emphasis 4. Use of symbols according to different interpretation schools 5. Own system of symbols 6. Consecutive interpreting with text 7. Simultaneous interpreting: theory and training 8. Chuchotage: theory and training 9. Consecutive interpreting of shorter sentences and text units 10. Consecutive interpreting of longer texts prepared at home (easy texts) 11. Consecutive interpreting of longer texts prepared at home (common business meetings) 12. Consecutive interpreting of longer texts prepared at home (promotion and fairs) 13. Consecutive interpreting of longer texts prepared at home ((cultural contacts, vernissage)

Learning outcomes
This course focuses on further development of interpretation skills in the field of consecutive interpreting. During the course, the student will learn the basics of simultaneous interpreting. The lessons will be conducted in group, individual students will also progressively experiment other basic techniques of interpretation on easy samples (chuchotage and simultaneous interpreting). The students will become familiar with different both theoretical and practical approaches to the interpreter's note taking. The emphasis will be placed on the individual ability to reproduce the notes, usefulness and clarity of the notes and the use of simple symbols. In groups we will train memory and consecutive interpreting of Czech-Czech, Czech-Polish, Polish-Czech and Polish-Polish texts.
In relation to the basic specialised language skills and competences, the student will attain further specialised skills and competences from the field. The student knows the basic theoretical principles of interpretation (basic terminology in Czech and Polish), the basic interpreting techniques. Consolidation of skills of sight interpretation, interpreting with text, and consecutive interpreting with text will be practically verified.
Prerequisites
Ability to work with specialized texts in Polish and in Czech. Very good knowledge of Polish and Czech.

Assessment methods and criteria
unspecified
Active participation, public interpreting on a predetermined topic and discussion of translation strategies and personal experience. The credit test will be oral.
