Course content
Topics for each week: 1. Introduction. Period between 1945-1955 2. Reflection of the Second World War in small prose forms: Nałkowska, Borowski. 3. Reflection of the Second World War in large prose forms: Herling-Grudziński. 4. Two dramas: Kruczkowski, Gombrowicz. 5. Two Faces of Poetry. Continuation of the work of the poets of "Młoda Polska" and the Interwar period : Staff, Wierzyński, Galczynski, Miłosz. The voice of the war generation: Różewicz. 6. Andrzejewski's ripening towards socialist realism. Period between 1956-1968 7. The historical parabola and the historical novel: Andrzejewski. 8 Rural prose: Pilot, Redliński, Myśliwski. 9. Exile and domestic drama: Mrożek, Różewicz. 10. Poetry of the "Współczesności" generation: Bursa, Grochowiak, Stachura. 11. Late debuts: Herbert, Szymborska, Białoszewski.

Learning outcomes
This course will provide an introduction to the basics of the history of Polish post-war literature until 1968. Aims: Introducing students to the most important works of Polish post-war literature written between 1945 and 1968 and to the key literary issues of this period. Developing the ability to analyse and interpret literary texts and to place them in different contexts, e.g. historical, political, philosophical. Developing the ability to work with online databases of scholarly articles
Very good understanding of the discussed literary content, very good ability to analyse and interpret literary texts and to place them in a historical and cultural context.
Prerequisites
Very good knowledge of the history of Polish literature until 1945.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Attendance: max. 2 absences per semester. Being familiar with required readings, active participation in discussions, independent work at home, oral presentation of current assignments in class, preparation of a presentation. Assessment criteria: active participation - 40%. paper - 30%. seminar paper - 30%.
