Course content
1. Understanding culture and the ways to explore national cultures 2. National cultures and cultural universals 3. The aspects influencing cultural competence in the Czech-Polish context: religion 4. Literature, film and translation: exemplified by the movie Dzień świra 12. Popular culture and translation: songs, comics and advertisements

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the analysis of selected phenomena related to culture as reflected in literary texts and the ways of their translation.
The aim of this course is to make the students familiar with the difficulties of translation in terms of cultural competence understood as knowledge of Polish culture and history. This segment of practical lessons involves work with particular translations in which cultural issues are important for the interpretation.
Prerequisites
Good knowledge of Polish language and basic knowledge of Polish culture

Student performance

Regular attendance to lectures (80 %, i.e. 2 absences per semestre), fulfillment of all the partial tasks from the lectures and seminars on an ongoing basis.
