Course content
1. Introduction to Ukraine and Ukrainians: The Ukrainian alphabet and rules of orthoepy (pronunciation). 2. My Homeland and My City: Transportation, greetings, and the declension of nouns. 3. Family, Professions, and Hobbies: Verb conjugation. 4. Days of the Week, Months, and Seasons: Numerals. 5. Dining and Ukrainian National Cuisine: The declension of pronouns. 6. Shops and Shopping (Groceries and Clothing): Adjectives. 7. Education (Schools and Kindergartens): The future tense. 8. Housing (Hotels and Dormitories): Adverbs. 9. Holidays and Traditions in Ukraine: The conditional mood. 10. Health and Sports: Orthographic (spelling) rules. 11. Cinema and Theatre / Cultural Landmarks: Grammar review. 12. The Constitution and Laws: Document templates and official/administrative style. 13. Course Credits / Assessments.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of the Ukrainian language system and to develop their receptive and productive language skills. Graduates of the course will acquire basic knowledge of Ukrainian grammar, orthoepy, and orthography, and master vocabulary within selected thematic areas of everyday and public life. Emphasis is placed on the ability to communicate and react appropriately in everyday situations, on understanding the fundamental socio-cultural realities of Ukraine, and on practical familiarization with the official/administrative style and standard document templates.
Students will acquire the fundamentals of Ukrainian grammar and cover the vocabulary of several thematic areas. They will learn how to communicate appropriately in specific situations, gain insight into Ukrainian culture and society, and become familiar with basic document templates.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Seminar attendance with a maximum of 2 weeks of absences per semester. Completion of assigned tasks, preparedness, and active participation in class discussions. Oral reproduction of texts on specified topics and writing an essay.
