Course content
1. Translating and translation, kinds of translations 2. Translator and translation, translatology 3. Translation versus interpreting, kinds of interpreting and their peculiarities. Communicative and psychologically-linguistical standpoits of interpreting. 4. Interpreter's notation. Ethics of interpreting. 5. Translators' organizations and periodicals, basis literature about translation. 6. Translation purpose. Process of translating. 7. Translating methods and practices. 8. Equivalency and adequacy in translation. 9. Lexicum without equivalency. 10. Peculiarities of translating technical texts; translating of terminology. 11. Selected problems of art-literature translating. 12. Audiovisual translation. 13. Professional translation and translation of terms.

Learning outcomes
This courses objective is to introduce students into the basic and general issues of translation theory and methodology. The theoretical knowledge is applied and practiced in practical translation seminars.
The subject should provide the students with overview of basic, generally applicable topical ranges of translating theory and translating metodology, knowledge of which may be applied a creative way in practical translation seminars and tutorials.
Prerequisites
The subject is intended for students of 3rd term of RHP, and 5th term of RF fields of study.
