Course content |
1. Basics of general psychology - psychology, basic psychological directions and approaches, application of psychology in educational practice. 2. Cognitive processes in educational practice - attention, perception, memory, thinking, intelligence and creativity - types of memory, memorizing and forgetting, memory disorders. Forms of thinking (concrete, visual, abstract), thinking disorders. Properties of perception, shape laws, perception disorders. Functions of attention, types and properties of attention. Characteristics of the concept of intelligence; intelligence testing; structure of intelligence, models and theory of intelligence; creativity; intelligence-creativity relationship, development of creativity in pupils and students. 3. Emotions and motivation - components and significance of emotions, classification of emotions (affects, moods, physical feelings, emotional relations), emotional intelligence; needs, motives, incentives, classification of motivation, motivation principles, motivation orientation, motivation climate; extrinsic and intrinsic motivation; reward and punishment; applications in educational practice. 4. Developmental psychology, theory of development, periodization of development - basic theory of individual development - Piaget, Freud, Erikson. Basic periodization of development - traditional periodization, periodization according to significant authors of developmental theories. 5. Development of an individual from birth to toddler period - characteristics of prenatal period, birth and early postnatal period; newborn, infant and toddler period; developmental periods. Specifics of attitudes to children in early and toddler periods. Games of the periods. 6. Development of an individual during preschool and school entering periods - characteristics of preschool period. Developmental roles and their accomplishment. Readiness of children for school and school maturity. Roles of games a drawing. Specifics of attitudes to children in preschool period. Early sports socialization. 7. Development of an early school child, pubescence and adolescence - characteristics of individual development during early school age, pre-puberty and puberty. Characteristics of adolescence period. Developmental roles in various periods. Specifics of attitudes to children in early school period, pubescence and adolescence. 8. Adulthood, ageing and old age - characteristics of individual development in adulthood, developmental roles in adulthood, life crossroads in adulthood (profession, partnership, parenthood, career growth - unemployment). Ageing. Developmental roles in old age; specific attitudes to ageing and old people. 9. Stress situations, burn-out syndrome - stress; stages of stress response; physiological, emotional and psychological effects of stress; influence of stress on health; behaviour and health; mental hygiene; burn-out syndrome. 10. Basic definition of the concept of personality, psycho-socio-spiritual dimension, implicit theory of personality. 11. Type, typology, temperament and character - individuality versus type, typology according to Eysenck, Jung, Kretschmer, Sheldon. Advantages and limitations of educational application. 12. Personality under bio-psycho-social stress - healthy personality, psychosomatic relationships, frustration, aggression, conflicts, defence of self-concept.

Learning outcomes |
The aim of the course is to present basic information about the application of psychology into professional practice. Throughout the course the students learn about basic psychological concepts, the concept of personality in a developmental context, social context and psychosocial stress, and learn to characterize various developmental stages and applications within educational practice.
Upon completion of the course the student understands the application of knowledge of general psychology, psychology of the personality, and social and developmental psychology in the area of professional expertise. The student knows and understands the meaning of basic psychological concepts. The student is motivated to develop own personality in terms of acquiring basic psychological competences. |
