Course content
|
Contents: 1. Selecting and refining the topic. 2. Reviewing the academic literature. 3. Defining the purpose and structure of the paper. 4. Argumentation and paraphrasing. 5. Citations and bibliographic references. 6. Revising and submitting the seminar paper. 7. Ongoing consultations with the seminar paper advisor. Students may choose from a variety of forms, tools, methods, and techniques for completing the seminar paper. Research strategies: - quantitative researchfor example, questionnaire surveys, surveys, preliminary research, pilot studies, and the like; - qualitative research using, for example, interviews, case studies, or observation. The choice of research strategy is subject to approval by the thesis advisor. Any topic and format may also be developed, with the advisor's consent, based on an assignment from a professional or academic institution.

Learning outcomes
|
In the seminar paper, the student must demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, the ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret the findings, and to generalize the results or draw conclusions from them. The seminar paper must include a description of the methodology of the scientific research activity, the methodology and interpretation of the research section, i.e., it must include the rationale for the research, the research tool, the definition of the objective, the research question (or hypotheses), the subject of the study, the methods and techniques used for data collection, and the method of evaluating the results.
Student will be able to define the topic of his seminar paper, locate and analyze scholarly sources, formulate arguments, and produce a text that meets the basic requirements of academic writing.

Prerequisites
|
The ability to work with academic literature and a basic understanding of citation guidelines; the thesis topic is assigned or discussed with the supervisor.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Seminar Work
The required paper should be 15-20 standard pages in length, include an appropriate number and variety of sources, and contain a sufficient number of citations from those sources. Information regarding the structure and formal requirements, including language standards, is provided to students prior to topic selection via the document "Instructions for the Seminar Paper" (see Moodle). Each student is evaluated based on identical criteria (see the evaluation form on Moodle).
