Course content
1. Information about the course, student responsibilities and method of completion 2. Hinduism - the term "Hindu" and "Hinduism", the term Dharma, Sanatana Dharma, Varnashrama Dharma, 3. Hinduism Vedic period, Brahmanism and Upanishads 4. Hinduism Today - Hinduism and Politics, Indian Independence Movement, Emergence of India and Secularism, Indian National Congress versus BJP, Hindu Nationalism (RSS), Hindutva 5. Buddhism- Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, 6. Mahayana and Vajrayana buddhimus 7. Buddhism today - engaged Buddhism, meditation movement and Hollywood Buddhism 8. Jainism 9. Sikhism. 10. Taoism. 11. Confucianism 12. Shintoism 13. Evaluation of submitted works.

Learning outcomes
The course aims to acquaint students with the religionist approach to the world's main religious traditions and the latest findings of religious research on Asian religious traditions. Students will gain an overview of the history and present of Asian religious traditions, especially Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Shinto. Students will also become familiar with source texts for selected religious traditions.
