Course content
|
1. Definition and concepts of forced migration. 2. The current situation in the field of refugees in the Czech Republic. Refugee infrastructure in the Czech Republic. 3. Legislative framework The European asylum system and its influence on the Czech Republic. International treaties and conventions (e.g. Geneva Convention on the Legal Status of Refugees). The Asylum Act. Temporary Protection Act. 4. Integration of refugees Policies and programs aimed at integration (education, labor market, housing, social services). The role of non-profit organizations and other actors in the integration of refugees. Challenges of integration in Czech society. 5. Practical part Visiting a facility for applicants for international protection or meeting with refugees.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course "Forced Migration and Refugees" is to provide students with a deeper understanding of the causes, consequences and dynamics of forced migration. Students will gain knowledge about international and national legal frameworks that relate to refugees, primarily with a focus on the Czech Republic.
The student acquires the basic terminology in the field of refugees. Understand the legal and socio-cultural context of refugees, especially in the Czech Republic.

Prerequisites
|
The course assumes the student's active interest in the issue of refugees. Furthermore, the ability to understand written English text (professional articles, book chapters) is assumed.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Seminar Work
1) Active attendance at the seminar 2) Active reading of the specified texts according to the reading schedule 3) Elaboration of the refugee's biography based on a personal meeting
