Learning outcomes
|
The goal of the course is to acquire a competence for critical reading and for writing convincing, consistent, stylistically correct and well-focused texts, such as for writing diploma thesis, essays and abstracts. The goal of the course is also to learn the skills and knowledge needed for successful preparation of project proposals, especially in the field of externally financed research. In general, the course aims to teach students how to critically assess the texts of others and how to write original, consistent, well founded, logically and stylistically correct texts in different fields of practical world, management and education. The course will have a form of seminar where students themselves will write, evaluate and discuss texts.
At the end of the course, student is able to critically assess the texts of other authors, including scientific papers, and he/she is able to write consistent, convincing, well-focused and correctly structured text in different fields of practice. He/she has a knowledge about how to structure scientific papers or how to meet ethical principles and citation standards in academic writing. He/she knows the main criteria applied during reviews/evaluation of academic papers and project proposals.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written exam, Essay
1. Written exam in the form of writing three texts during the course (each text for about 2-5 norm pages): (1) critical review of other text, (2) abstract/annotation and (3) essay. Students may get maximum of 80 points for written exam. 2. Activity on seminar: evaluation and discussion of texts written by other students. Students may get maximum of 20 points for activity on seminar. Students may get maximum of 100 points for the course.
