Course content
1. Identifying a suitable conference. 2. Defining the presentation topic. 3. Writing the abstract. 4. Planning the structure of the paper/presentation and its format (e.g. a formal written paper, PowerPoint, audio-visual presentation, poster). 5. Preparation of paper/presentation sections. 6. Presentation of the paper at a conference. 7. Writing a report from the conference. Regular International conferences: Annual conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA)/International Sociological Association (ISA, ISA Forum of Sociology) Midterm ESA/ISA conferences. Apart from the regular conferences, there is a number of one-off events. The announcements are sometimes distributed via the departmental mailing list, but it is advisable to look around the Internet and social networks for calls for papers and thematic mailing lists. Identifying a suitable conference, following a consultation with the supervisor; writing/preparing a conference presentation, presenting a conference paper; communication with the organisers. Students are required to submit a report from the conference within 14 days after their return for the approval to their supervisors and the course guarantor. The report consists of the abstract of own presentation and a copy of the appropriate part of the conference programme; a confirmation of conference participation by the organisers is also advisable. After the conference, the particulars about the paper presentation must be entered into the Personal Bibliographic Database (OBD) FF UP.
