Learning outcomes
The aim is to: 1) test the student´s existing competence, skills and knowledge gained from the individual reading of scholarly literature and from the following courses: Theoretical reflection of anthropological research; Fieldwork in social and cultural anthropology; Texts on anthropological theories 1; Texts on anthropological theories 2. 2) present and defend the existing condition of his/her dissertation work. Concerning 1): the student is provided a list of 30 titles of scholarly literature (10 theoretical-methodological; 10 ethnographies and readers of chosen anthropological subdisciplines; 5 anthropology of migration; 5 anthropology of religion); the board consisting of at least three members will select the title(s) and the student will discuss the main ideas, argument and an overall contribution of the selected literature to the current anthropological thought.
After successful passing the exam the student will be able to demonstrate his/her competence and skills in the two key areas of the doctorate study of anthropology: a) the theoretical-methodological discussion, b) the specific fieldwork.
Prerequisites
The prerequisite to succeed in this exam is to master the following courses: Theoretical reflection of anthropological research; Fieldwork in social and cultural anthropology; Texts on anthropological theories 1; Texts on anthropological theories 2.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance

The student will read 30 scholarly books and will be able to discuss them in regard to their key ideas, arguments, theoretical-methodological background, and overall contribution to current cultural anthropology. The student will prepare a presentation (oral or in ppt presentation) of the existing condition of his/her dissertation thesis.
