Course content
1) Why and how we study Spanish literature? (organization of studies in Spanish philology, basic terms, sources, literary magazines, important addresses) 2) Main epochs in history of Spanish literature: the Middle Ages reading: Juan Ruiz: Libro de Buen Amor Fernando de Rojas: La Celestina 3)Main epochs in history of Spanish literature: Golden Age reading: Lazarillo de Tormes, Miguel de Cervantes: Don Quijote de la Mancha Francisco de Quevedo: poesía escogida - selected poetry Luis de Góngora: poesía escogida - selected poetry 4) Introduction to Hispanic American literature 5) Reflection of the conquest of America in literature: first cronicles, colonial literature

Learning outcomes
The objective of the lecture is to familiarize the students with the basic methodology of the study of Spanish-written literature. The students should also get acquainted with the development of this literature. During the course the stress will be put on the most important periods and movements, for example Spanish Middle Age, Renaissaince, "Golden Age", Hispanic American literature of Colonial period etc. Each period will be expounded in the form of reading. Basic book, periodical and information sources.
Basic knowledge of literary history of the era, ability to analyse and interpret selected texts.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of literary history, orientation in the history of Spain and Latin America.
