Course content
The course focuses on the following topics: 1. What is semantics? Meaning and extralinguistic reality, 2. Meaning according to Cognitive Linguistics, 3. Metaphor and metonymy, 4. Semantic relationships (synonymy, homonymy, polysemy, antonymy, hyperonymy and hyponymy) and tools for teaching the Spanish vocabulary to foreigners, 5. Causes and mechanisms of semantic change, 6. Origin of the Spanish lexicon, 7. Lexicography, 8. Neology, Borrowing, and Code Switching.

Learning outcomes
Instruction is focused on the basic semantic concepts, the semantic relations in the lexikon and disciplines dealing with lexical units. In lectures is also included detailed analysis of the basic lexikografic works. Instruction is in Spanish.
The student has the basic knowledge of the structure of the lexicon and understands it, acquires the skill of working with specialized texts and can apply acquired knowledge on working with electronic language corpus.

1. attendence, active participation and preparation for classes and assignments based on readings of academic texts 2. final written exam 3. oral presentation During the semester, the student will complete a number of tasks based mainly on mandatory readings, audiovisual materials, interactive activities or searches on Spanish corpora.
