The course should provide a survey of the development of the oldest Portuguese literature, since its beginnings up to the Renaissance. It focuses on the period of the Galician-Portuguese lyrics, the medieval prose and historiography, the poetry collected in Cancioneiro Geral, the Gil Vicente's dramatic works and Renaissance authors (lyrics, epics, drama, the literature of overseas discoveries). A special attention is paid to Luís de Camoes' poetry. During the seminars, students analyse selected texts of the most important authors in Portuguese.
