Course content

The seminar focuses on the translation and linguistic or literary analysis of texts: - Approaches to dealing with the problem of non-equivalent vocabulary - Translating proper names, toponyms, specific local cultural references, etc. - Stylistic levels and layers of Portuguese and Czech, mutual comparison - Pragmalinguistic phenomena and their translation into Czech - Interpreting short documentary films - monologue - Transcription of feature film dialogue

Students will get acquainted with the basic theory of translation and will improve their skills in translation of texts from different styles and registers into their mother tongue.
