Course content
|
In this seminar, the students will practise translation of common business correspondence. Attention is also paid to translation of Portuguese literary texts, both modern and older, and to the Czech theories of translation. - Approaches to dealing with non-equivalent vocabulary - Translating proper names, toponyms, specific local cultural references, etc. - Stylistic levels and layers of Portuguese and Czech, mutual comparison - Pragmalinguistic phenomena and their translation into Czech - Interpreting short documentary films - monologue - Transcription of feature film dialogue

Learning outcomes

Students will get acquainted with the basic theory of translation and will improve their skills in translation of texts from different styles and registers into their mother tongue.
