Course content
|
In this seminar, students will develop and practise their skills acquired in the courses Translation Practice 1 and 2. The stress is put mainly on literary translations (prose and poetry) and on musical translation. Text as the basic unit of translation, text and context, basic concepts, text typologies, intertextuality the stylistic level of translation and its significance - Discourse, context, contextual parameters of translation analysis and text comprehension, intercultural communication - Issues in the translation of literary texts - Translation quality and its significance, basic concepts, evaluation of translation quality - Analysis of contemporary translations from Portuguese - Translation of journalistic, essayistic, literary, and specialized texts
