Course content
- First modernism - the Orpheu generation (F. Pessoa, M. de Sá Carneiro) - Second modernism - the Presença generation (B. da Fonseca, J. Régio) - Neo-realism in poetry and fiction - Poetic trends of the 1940s and 1950s - Fiction of the second half of the 20th century - Poetry and theater of the second half of the 20th century - Contemporary literary trends

Learning outcomes
This course follows on from Portuguese Literature 2. Its aim is to provide an overview of the development of Portuguese literature in the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, focusing on the main trends, key authors, and major works.
After completing the course, students will be familiar with the development of modern and contemporary Portuguese literature in its historical and cultural context and with its major works.
Prerequisites
The course is taught largely in Portuguese. Students are expected to be able to understand extended discourse in Portuguese.
