- The earliest settlements in Portugal - The Roman Empire and the Arab conquest of the Iberian Peninsula - The Reconquista and the emergence of Portugal - The sources of Portuguese expansion and the first phase of the Age of Discovery - The second phase of the Age of Discovery and the golden age of the Portuguese kingdom - The decline of the maritime empire and the Disaster of S?o Sebasti?o - Loss of independence and Spanish rule - The Restoration and the Portuguese Enlightenmentthe figure of the Marquis of Pombal - The influence of the French Revolution and the reign of Emperor Napoleon on Portugal - Portugal in the 19th century - The establishment of the republic and Salazar - Salazar's Portugal and the path to the restoration of democracy

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on the brief overview of the history of Portugal from the creation of kingdom to democratic evolution of the republic today. It will also offer a brief introduction into Portuguese geography and culture. The course is taught in Czech.
Complete overview of the history of Portugal and the ability of its critical analysis.
