1. Introduction - language / dialect / speech variety 2. Dialectology and linguistic geography 3. Dialectological methods 4. Evolution of Portuguese dialectology 5. Classification of Portuguese dialects 6. Dialects according to Lindley Cintra's new proposal - Galician 7. Dialects according to Lindley Cintra's new proposal - Northern: Transmontano and Alto-Minhoto subgroup; Baixo-Minhoto, Duriense, and Beir?o subgroup 8. Dialects according to Lindley Cintra's new proposal - Central-Southern: Central-Coastal subgroup and Central-Inland subgroup 9. Borderland varieties - Mirandese, Riodonor?s, Guadramil?s, Barranquenho, etc. 10. Insular dialects of Madeira 11. Insular dialects of the Azores 12. Morphological and syntactic features of Portuguese dialects

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the geographical variants of European Portuguese, both on the continent and on the islands (Azores, Madeira). It also traces the differences between European and Brazilian Portuguese and briefly provides information about the language variants existing in other Portuguese-speaking countries. It is supplemented by listening to recordings and analyzing texts.
Overview of existing geographical variations of Portuguese and the ability of their linguistic analysis.
