Course content
1. Modernism - the 1920s: Modern Art Week; modernist manifestos; poetry and prose 2. Modernism - the 1930s: prose: the novel Severovýchod (Northeast); poetry 3. Literature 1945-1964: Prose and Poetry 4. The Development of the Novel from the Military Coup to the Present 5. The Development of the Short Story from the Military Coup to the Present 6. The Development of Drama from the Military Coup to the Present 7. The Development of Poetry from the Military Coup to the Present

Learning outcomes
The course deepens the subject matter dealt with in preceding courses of the Brazilian literature for the bachelor´s degree. It will include study of the main aspects of Brazilian social and political history, which form the background reflected in the literary works.
Students become familiar with main trends in the evolution of the Brazilian literature since the modernism up to the present days. Students should become able to define main notions, basic notions for the given literary context and interconnect literary questions with culturally historical issues. Students should be able to classify the concrete authors within such context, characterise generally their works and analyse in detail the selected texts. Students learn to discuss the matter and independently approach the interpretation of texts.
