Course content
1. Introduction, literature on the topic 2. The Council of Trent and the new Catholicism. Art, society and the political situation on the Peninsula in the second half of the 16th century 3. Political overview 17th century. The concept of the Baroque. 4. Baroque Painting ? naturalism and classicism: Caravaggio, Carracci, Guido Reni, O. and A. Gentileschi 5. Baroque sculpture and architecture 6. The Italian society in the Central Europe and its transformation. Czechs in Italy. 7. Tuscany late 17th and early 18th century. 8. Academy of scholars and nobility. 9. Settecento, change of the political map of Italy. Enlightenment, a new dynasty reform. Magazine Cafe. 10. Art of Late Baroque. Venice. 11. Quotidian life in Rome in the time of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. 12. Society of the 17th and 18th century and its transformation 13. Agriculture and Physiocracy.

Learning outcomes
- The object of the course is to acquaint students with the basic problems of Baroque Italy. - Italian art in the European context. - Czech-Italian relations in the early modern period ? Grand Tour, Italian artists in Central Europe
- Students will acquire basic knowledge of the sources and the literature on the topic - Student will learn the basic problems of society 17th - 18th century in Italy - The student will be able to undertake independent research - Student will be able to critically evaluate sources, to recognize the relationship between the historical development and the development of culture and art.
