Course content
Some possible thematic areas: 1. Ossessione and the end of fascist cinema. 2. Roberto Rossellini and Neorealism. 3. The melodrama of the fifties: Senso by Luchino Visconti. 4. 1960: L'avventura by Antonioni and Rocco e i suoi fratelli by Visconti. 5. Federico Fellini and La Dolce Vita. 6. The Italian New Wave: Bertolucci and Bellocchio. 7. The cinema of civil commitment: Olmi, Petri and Damiani. 8. Reconstructing history with cinema: Giordana's La meglio giovent?. 9. Nanni Moretti's cinema. 10. Literature in cinema: Pirandello and the Taviani. 11. Contemporary Italian cinema: Dante, Rohwacher, Frammartino. 12. A contemporary classic: Matteo Garrone.

Learning outcomes
Basic knowledge of Italian cinematography. In-depth knowledge of some classics of Italian cinema.
Students will acquire basic knowledge of the history of Italian cinema. Important personalities of the Italian film that student will be able to recognize. In addiction to this, the seminar deals with concrete films, analyzed in their structural, stylistic and figurative components.
