Course content
The course will cover the following topics: 1. Forms of the current literary life in France, writers, critical community, publishing houses, academies, literary cafés, newspapers and magazines, literary awards 2. Basic tendencies in development of the contemporary French literature 3. The evolution of the French novel at the edge of the 20th century 4. Contemporary French poetry 5. French drama at the edge of the century. Tradition and originality 6. The crisis of values: popular mass production on the border of literary garbage 7. Contemporary French authors of non-French origin

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to make the students familiar with the development of French literature from the 1980s until now and to guide them to independent literary analysis of the fundamental texts.
better understanding of the development of the contemporary French literary production in the social and cultural context perfection of the ability to work with literary terminology improvement of the ability to interpret a text as a structure of meaning, to apply different historical and current approaches of literary analysis on the particular texts development of the ability to lead a scholarly discussion

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Seminar Work

1. regular attendance and active participation in the seminars 2. preparation for each class, knowledge of the text to be analysed The exam will test the understanding of literary history of the given epoch and literary theory.
