The course will cover the following topics: 1. University criticism; Gustave Lanson 2. Bachelard´s conception of space; the theory of four elements 3. Henri Bergson´s theory and its application on a literary work; duration, the origin of comic 4. Charles Mauron´s psycho-critical approaches 5. Structuralism and Roland Barthes 6. Poulet´s conception of time 7. Julia Kristeva

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the main stages of development of the modern French literary criticism and its main representatives.
the knowledge of the main literary critical theories and the ability to apply them on a particular text perfection of the ability to work with literary terminology development of the ability to take part in an academic discussion

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Student performance
Regular attendance and active participation in the seminars. Preparation for each class, knowledge of the text to be analysed. The exam will test the student?s understanding of the individual literary critical theories and the ability to apply them on a particular literary work.
