Course content
This course will cover the following topics: 1. Literary science and its components, the place of literature in modern culture 2. What literature is and the ways of its existence 3. Genres and forms 4. Poetic forms, versology 5. Dramatic literary text 6. Narrative literary text 7. The theory of novel, types of plot, chronotopes 8. Literary space, fictional world 9. Literary character 10. Modern approaches to literature (deconstruction, semiology, phenomenology, archetypal criticism, etc.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to learn the basic patterns of literary texts and their modern classification. The student should get familiar with the problems and terminology of the literary science, both concerning the nature of literature as a an artistic form and its relationship with other human activities, as well as the internal problems of the literary system, development, comparative possibilities, formal aspects of literary text, versology, etc.
The students should learn the theory of the literary science and the basics of theory of literature. They should be able to think in terms of modern literary approaches and to apply this general knowledge to particular texts. They will be able to relate a particular literary text to its historical and formal context and to outline the basic lines of meaning in the literary text.

Oral exam, Written exam

Attendance to lectures and seminars, reading of assigned literary and scholarly texts, preparation for the exam, meeting the requirements of the exam.
