Course content
|
The students will be informed about the structure of Canadian society and its influence on the linguistic situation of the country; about the federal language laws and their application; the language laws, linguistic situation and the status of the French-speaking inhabitants in the English-speaking provinces, about the bilingual New Brunswick and Québec. Other topics include the hypotheses about the origin of the particularity of Québec French, the question of standardisation of this variety and Québec lexicography. The attention is paid also to the phonetic, phonological, morphological and lexical specificities.

Learning outcomes
|
This course makes the students acquainted with the linguistic situation in Canada and with the specifics of both types of French that are used.
