Course content
This course will cover the following topics: 1. Languages used in Canada and the relationships among them, bilingualism, immigration and its influence on the linguistic situation of the country 2. Federal language law and Canadian language policy 3. Language acts in Québec and their influence on the linguistic situation in this province 4. Status of French in the English-speaking Canadian provinces 5. Québec French and its phonetic, morphological, sytactical and lexical peculiarities 6. Acadian French and its phonetic, morphological, sytactical and lexical peculiarities

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the status and the specificities of french in Canada. The emphasis is put mainly on the relationship among French and English and on the issue of the future of French in Québec and other Canadian provinces.
to understand the development and the status of French in Canada to get acquainted with the Canadian language policy in Québec to be able to recognize the varieties of French used in Canada to develop the ability to analyse the particularities of Canadian French

Student performance

1. Regular attendance and active participation in the lectures and seminars 2. Preparation for the classes 3. A presentation The credit test will test the understanding of the basic issues related to the status of French in Canada and its particularities in comparison to other varieties of French language.
