Course content
Classification of French consonants according to various criteria - activity of vocal chords (i.e. voiced and voiceless consonants), way of articulation (i.e. occlusive and constrictive consonants), place of articulation. Practical training of French nasal consonants - listening and reproduction exercises with the use of mp3 and tape recordings. French consonants and semiconsonants. Main suprasegmental features of the French language: rhythmical group, types of syllables according to their ending (closed and open syllables), quantity of the French vowels (as compared with the Czech phonological quantity of vowels). Sound changes within a continuous speech - assimilation (regressive, progressive), enchaînement vocalique, liaison (its types: obligatory, optional and impossible). Two types of French stress.

The objective of the course is to enhance the knowledge in the field of phonetic theory and to improve the orthoepic standard of the French pronunciation.
