|
The course programme: 1) The history of Belgium from the earliest times to the present. 2) The francophone culture in Belgium and its major representatives. 3) The history of Switzerland from the earliest times to the present. 4) The francophone culture in Switzerland and its major representatives. 5) The history and the francophone culture of Luxembourg. 6) The history of Haiti from the earliest times to the present. 7) The francophone culture in Haiti and its major representatives. 8) The history of Guadeloupe from the earliest times to the present. 9) The francophone culture in Guadeloupe and its major representatives. 10) The Creole culture of the island of Dominica.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the history and culture of the European francophone countries. The emphasis is put mainly on the most recent history and on the status of the francophone culture in multilingual countries, where it must co-exist with other language cultures.
1. To understand the history of the francophone European countries and the territories in the Caribbean. 2. To become familiar with the culture of the francophone European countries and the territories in the Caribbean. 3. To develop the ability to work with texts from the individual francophone countries and territories.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
1. Regular attendance and active participation in the lectures and seminars 2. Preparation for the classes 3. A presentation The credit test will test the understanding of the basic issues from the history and culture of the European francophone countries.
