Course content
|
This course will cover the following topics from the history of France: 1/ France during the reign of Louis XV and Louis XVI 2/ The French Revolution and its stages 3/ Napoleon's France, the Consulate, the Empire 4/ Restoration era; territorial, social and economic development of France in the 1st half of the 19th century 5/ Second Republic and Second Empire, Haussmann´s renovation of Paris 6/ Third Republic; territorial, social and economic development of France in the 2nd half of the 19th century 7/ France and WWI, interwar France 8/ WWII; demografic changes in France in the 1st half of the 20th century 9/ Decolonisation and its influence on the economic development of France 10/ France in the 1st half of the 20th century 11/ France after the year 2000

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the key moments of French history and culture, which will serve as a basis for the lectures in literature and linguistics. The emphasis is put on analysis of literary and specialised texts reflecting important events from history of France. Presentation of the individual topics is complemented with interactive audio-visal materials and the newest specialized literature on the French history and culture, emhasizing the work with historical maps.
1/ to acquire an insight in the crucial moments of French history and the character of French culture 2/ to understand the relationships between the historical events, the character of French culture and the development of French literature 3/ to be able to interpret scholarly and artistic texts

It is recommended to complete the course History and culture of France 1 (KRF/DKFR1).

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Systematic Observation of Student
1. regular attendance and active participation in the seminars 2. presentation The exam will test the understanding of the covered historical and cultural topics and the links between them.
