Course content
|
This course will cover the following topics: 1. The specificity of the dramatic text in comparison with narrative 2. Text and metatext, variation of the text levels 3. Time and space in the dramatic text and their particularities 4. Story and plot 5. Character and its role, configuration of characters, the actantial model, Greimas and Ubersfeld 6. The role of the reader during decoding and interpretation of the text, Umberto Ecco 7. Text and its scenic representation 8. An ongoing analysis of fragments of works from the individual stages of development of French drama

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is ti make the students familiar with the main approaches to the analysis of of a dramatic text. The seminars are focused on a detailed analysis of the model works from different stages of development of French literature.
1/ to know basic theories of literary criticism and to be able to apply them on a particular literary text 2/ to perfection the ability to work with literary terminology 3/ to develop the ability to carry on a scholarly discussion

Oral exam, Essay
1. regular attendance and active participation in the seminars 2. preparation for each class, knowledge of the text to be analysed The exam will test the understanding of the individual literary critical theories and the ability to apply them on a particular literary work.
