Course content
The student, step by step, gets to know the basic literary terminology and the critical studies relating generally to the role of comic and laughter in the literary production (definition of the comic in Aristotle's Poetics, Stendhal's essay on laughter, Bachtin's conception; Sylvie Richterová: indentification of the positional variant of laughter "laughter as opposed to non-laughter"; Vladimír Borecký and his Theory of comic). Futhermore, the particularities of the comic elements across the literary genres are defined and the development of comic and its understanding in different literary movements and particular authors of the Romance literatures is observed.

Learning outcomes
The objective of this subject is to enrich the student's knowledge in the field of comic and its representation in the individual literary genres.
To improve the ability of discussion on an academic topic and the ability to apply the learnt theoretical knowledge on a particular literary corpus.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Essay, Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)

The student actively takes part in the lessons. For the exam, he or she must cover the topics from the lectures and must hand in for print one review of a paper on the topic discussed in the given Romance literature and also must hand in one shorter analytic written study, in which he or she demonstrates his or her ability to apply the theory from the lectures on any literary work from the chosen genre.
