Course content
|
This course will cover the following topics: 1. French preromantism, François René de Chateaubriand, the restorer of the medieval times, iniciator of the modern melancholy, "mal du siecle". 2. The Romantic period and its principals, the hegemony of poetry. Lamartine: philosophical and narrative poetry. Musset: sentimental and declamatory poetry. Vigny: poetry of existencial sensations. Nerval: esoterical aspect of poetry, dream - myth, modernity. 3. Hugo: richness and diversity of his production, its social and manicheistic undertone, antithesis, development of the subjective to the objective. 4. The noverl of the Romantic period. Balzac: historian, psychologist, realist, visionary. Total novel. Stendhal - rationalist, sensualist, psychologist.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the main literary movements of the 19th century and the authors. The seminars are focused on a detailed literary-theoretical analysis of the principal works.
The acquired competences correspond with the specified objectives of the course.
