Course content

Content 1. Basic problems of the theory of pedagogy: Origin and development of the theory of pedagogy, Pedagogy as a science, Sources of pedagogy, Methods of pedagogical research, System of pedagogical sciences, Structure of pedagogy, Relationship between pedagogy and other sciences. 2. Education as the basic concept of pedagogy: Education, Schooling, Qualification, Self-education. 3. Education as a social phenomenon: Education as a social phenomenon, Social determination of education, The effect of education on society. 4. Education and human development: Beliefs about the role of education in the history of pedagogy (educational optimism, educational pessimism, overestimation of the effect of education, pedology), Current beliefs about education. 5. Objectives and content of education: Definition of terms, Social and pedagogical conditionality of the objectives of education, Objectives of education. 6. Educational process: Definition of terms, Education as a system, Educational process, Stages of the educational process. 7. Educational institutions: Definition of the following terms: School, Family, Other educational institutions. 8. The teacher.

Objectives: To present to the students the basic pedagogical principles, beliefs, and domains as the basic pedagogical disciplines. Upon completion of the course the students will be able to: interpret the basic pedagogical phenomena and principles and explain these pedagogical phenomena and principles with understanding and in context.
