Learning outcomes
In the course, students learn about the basic psychological concepts included in the terminological system of general psychology. The course defines relevant psychological specializations, mental processes (cognitive, emotional, volitional), and basic psychological methods. Focus will be on the most significant developmental concepts and developmental stages. The whole course is underpinned by research-based and practical knowledge of current psychology. Emphasis is also on practical applicability of the knowledge in the context of helping professions. Topics: Terminological system of current general psychology. The evolution of psychology and contemporary perspectives, Cognitive processes (thinking, attention, perception, imagination, memory). Learning. Emotions. Motivation. Psychological methods. Definition of developmental psychology, basic concepts (maturation, learning, development, developmental change, etc.). Core psychological concepts (Piaget, Erikson, Kohlberg). Stages of development (early age, preschool age, school age, adolescence, adulthood, old age).
